Sherry Helgoe

 Sherry Helgoe MA, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has provided therapy and support groups for hundreds of women in her private practice, one-day seminars, and education/support groups. She maintains two private practice locations in California, one in Yorba LInda and the other in Corona del Mar where she specializes in working with women.

Sherry is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University’s Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Program, a Therapist Consultant for licensed therapists seeking peer review and is a Board Certified Clinical Supervisor mentoring interns weekly as they work towards licensure.  She is a consultant for a children's "environmentally friendly" pilot television program and is a Board Member for a non-profit sexual abuse survivor's organization. She is a regular contributor for WomensWisdomNetwork.com a premier network for women seeking professional and personal guidance.

Sherry's professional background includes many years of vast clinical experience. She worked as a Health Educator for a major Southern California HMO where she developed curriculum and taught education/support groups on depression, stress management/mindfulness,  parenting and implemented a 16-week emotional overeating weight management program. As an Adjunct Professor at Santiago Canyon Community College, she taught Introduction of Psychology and Developmental Psychology classes. In addition, she's worked for an in-patient psychiatric hospital; a non-profit center treating women, teenagers, and their families; and as a high school counselor working with teenagers individually and facilitating peer group conflict resolution program.

She volunteers weekly for Operation Comfort, a Military Therapy Referral Network for families of active service personnel.

Specialized Training:
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine: A 7-Day Residential Training

This training provided an opportunity to directly experience mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Drs. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli, to learn to practice mindfulness meditation as it is taught in the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts, Michigan. Learning objectives included:
  • Integrating mindful approaches to the experience and expression of stress, pain, grief, and anxiety within ourselves and when working with others.
  • Understanding instructing and guiding others in the formal and informal methods of mindfulness meditation in various settings.

Sherry successfully completed this residential training in February 2001.
